| I had the pleasure of ringing in the new year 2004 by gigging with Tommy
Graham. He became internationally famous at the age of 14 when his trio was featured in a
Jayne Mansfield movie. After that he was the guest artist with the Benny Goodman Orchestra
at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. Tommy can sound like Johnny Mathis, Liberace, Elvis
Presley, Oscar Peterson, and Barry White all in the space of 8 bars. He was decommissioned
from the Navy by John F Kennedy who then appointed him the first official White House
pianist. Tommy toured many years fronting a high-energy 9-piece horn group while
continuing his trio and solo performances. Some of his flashy jewelry he attributes to the
King; gifts from Elvis himself. Recent health problems have slowed Tommy just a bit. But
his fingers are nimble as ever and his four octave vocal range continues to inspire both
awe and delight in young and old alike. |
The piano ring was a gift from Elvis, who had it custom
made for Tommy. The large ring is from Istanbul. |
